Michael Carrick has dismissed Paul Scholes’ criticism and reveals that he spoke with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about taking the interim job at Manchester United.

Carrick got his reign off to the perfect start on Tuesday evening as United reached the Champions League knockout phase with a 2-0 victory over Villarreal.

Cristiano Ronaldo put United in front with a brilliant lob with 12 minutes remaining before Jadon Sancho scored his first goal for the club to wrap up the win.

Before the match, Scholes slammed Carrick, Kieran McKenna and Mike Phelan for agreeing to stay on at United after Solskjaer’s departure on Sunday.
