alf Rangnick will be given funds to strengthen his Manchester United squad in January and the German boss is keen to bring RB Leipzig midfielder Amadou Haidara to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils confirmed the appointment of Rangnick as interim manager on Monday morning, with the 63-year-old set to be in charge until the end of the season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his duties last weekend following a poor run of form and ex-midfielder Michael Carrick was placed in temporary charge for Tuesday’s Champions League victory over Villarreal and Sunday’s Premier League draw at Chelsea.

Rangnick left his role as head of sports and development at Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow to take up the job at Manchester United and is already planning to bolster his squad at the Theatre of Dreams ahead of the January transfer window.

The manager’s desire to press and play on the front foot is well known and The Times say Rangnick has identified his former player Haidara as a target for United.
